21.04.22 Maggie On the Move

By Scott Shephard

Blame my college degree in the Classics for this but when I look at this photo, I can’t help but think of the famous “Riddle of the Sphinx” from the play Oedipus Rex. The riddle asks, “What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon and three legs in the evening?” The answer is “a human.” In the “morning” of life a baby crawls, in the “afternoon” he/she walks on two legs and in the “evening” of life, an older man or woman uses a cane - thus three legs.

Maggie, at 9 months, has recently started to crawl and becomes more proficient by the day. As a rule, she seems a little uncomfortable in my presence but on this day she saw me and fairly quickly made her way across the room towards me. But I realized that she was no doubt less attracted to me than to my new, cool camera. You can’t blame her, can you?
