04-28-17 The House on the Hill

By Scott Shephard

I left Watertown very early last Sunday morning with the intent to go to The River to spend some quality time with Wandering Star,* who is still on her trailer and who no doubt misses me. Along the way, I intended to be at one of my favorite old farm houses (north of Miller, SD) just as the sun rose. I had my drone and thought this would be a good chance to get some unique photos.

The morning was dark and cloudless when I left home but by the time I got to Redfield the sun had risen. However, thick fog had moved in. This old house is 30 miles or so from Redfield and you can see that the fog persisted. What you can't see is that it was cold, windy and a lot foggier than the camera shows.

But I photographed the old place anyway and am glad I did. Given the forward lean of this house, I expect that it will collapse sooner rather than later and I think it is important to document this beautiful place as much as possible. I'll no doubt be back here again - maybe in better light and in better weather.
