24.02.21 This Is Not South Dakota
By Scott Shephard
I’m not sure what might clue you in to the fact that this stretch of sand was not photographed in South Dakota. I know of one long, sandy beach in South Dakota but there are no expensive high-rise condominiums lining it shores. That one is north of Mission Creek on Lake Oahe in central South Dakota. It is rare that one would see people there - only piping plover, killdeer, cattle and occasional bald eagles. In 30 years I’ve never seen a jogger or beachcomber.
The beachcomber here (who is casting a long morning shadow) is Deb. The primary reason we are staying in Naples, FL, is that the beaches can be a sheller’s paradise. Deb didn’t find “paradise” on this particular day but she did come away with a small bag full of shells, including two unbroken sand dollars. She seemed satisfied and that was more than good enough for me.
