Observant followers of this blog might note that I rarely do wedding photography. If you wanted to know why I suppose it would be the phrase "out of control." My photography generally is deliberate, serendipitous, quiet and contemplative. Beyond that, because most of what I do isn't commercial, my photography isn't really about "doing" and "making." It's about "being," which is to say that my photography is more about the experience and less about the result.

Therefore, weddings don't fit my personality. And at Ashley and Nate Johnson's wedding, which was to be outdoors, when the wind was blowing 25mph and it started to rain an hour before the ceremony, I asked myself, "Why did I say yes?"

This photo and the others posted here (click) are the answer. Nate, Ashley and all the others in the wedding party were wonderful. They cooperated in every way. And the weather did too. The threat of rain went away, the wind went down a bit and the sun even showed itself from time to time, which made for some intriguing lighting effects during the ceremony.

Beyond all of that, I realize, I am lucky to be asked to help record a very important day in the history of this young couple and of their families.
